Project ACE 2024:
A Journey of Service, Growth, and Transformation
The journey of Project ACE 2024 was nothing short of extraordinary. Set against the stunning backdrop of Lombok, Indonesia, this overseas service-learning expedition brought together a diverse team under Emaan Catalyst Community to create meaningful impact in underserved communities. Through hands-on activities, deep reflections, and immersive cultural experiences, Project ACE was more than just a volunteering trip—it was a transformative experience for all involved.
Bridging Communities through Service
Project ACE had three key objectives:

Environmental Stewardship – Engaging in plantation and farming activities at Sekolah Alam Rinjani (SAR) and Mt. Rinjani to promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Educational Outreach – Conducting workshops and interactive learning sessions at primary schools and Pesantren (boarding schools).

Community Empowerment – Supporting local social enterprises through skill-based training in marketing and social media strategies.
From the moment the team landed, they were met with warm hospitality and an eagerness to collaborate. The farming activities at SAR provided hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, while workshops on social enterprise development empowered local partners with practical tools to expand their reach. In schools, interactive sessions fostered deeper learning and engagement, covering topics from basic hygiene to environmental conservation.
Overcoming Challenges, Embracing Growth
No journey is without its hurdles, and Project ACE was no exception. The team encountered challenges such as language barriers, fatigue, and adapting to new environments. However, these obstacles only reinforced the resilience and adaptability of the participants. Through creative solutions like visual aids, peer translations, and flexible scheduling, the team ensured that every engagement remained impactful.
One of the most significant learning moments came during the rice-packing initiative, where the team collectively packed and distributed 400kg of rice to beneficiaries at Bukit Sampah. The experience was humbling and underscored the importance of direct community engagement in addressing food insecurity.
Moments that Mattered

Beyond the structured activities, some of the most profound experiences came from the spontaneous moments of connection. Team members bonded over late-night reflections, exchanged cultural knowledge with the locals, and found solace in the breathtaking landscapes of Lombok. Whether it was the thrill of the Amazing Race-style activities or the quiet peace of star-gazing after a long day, every moment contributed to a deeper sense of purpose and gratitude.
One participant, Khairunnisa, shared, “I never imagined the impact this trip would have on me. The scenery was breathtaking, but what truly stood out were the people—their kindness, resilience, and generosity. This experience has reshaped my perspective on service and life.”
The Ripple Effect of Project ACE
Project ACE 2024 was not just about giving back; it was about reciprocal learning. While the team imparted skills and knowledge, they too walked away enriched with lessons on humility, gratitude, and the strength of community. The bonds formed, both within the team and with the locals, will remain a lasting testament to the power of service.
As the team reflects on this journey, they recognize that the true impact of Project ACE extends beyond the days spent in Lombok. It lives on in the commitments made—to continue serving, to advocate for sustainability, and to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
